Using DebateRoom requires creating an account. When you register and use the Service, we collect the information necessary to operate, secure, and improve it, including:

a. Account Information

• Full name
• Date of birth (used to confirm you meet our minimum age requirement of 16)
• Email address
• Username and display name
• Password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form — never in plain text)
• Account activity, such as debate count and last sign-in time

b. Technical and Device Information

• Device type (e.g., mobile or desktop)
• Browser type
• Operating system
• Connection timestamps

c. Usage and Session Information

• Time connected to a debate
• Session start and end times
• Total call duration
• Connection status and basic performance metrics

d. Topic and Stance Data

• Topics selected for debate
• Stance or position selected for matching purposes

This information is collected automatically as part of providing and maintaining the Service.

2. Audio and Video Data

DebateRoom does not record, store, monitor, or review audio or video content from debates.

Live audio and video communication occurs directly between participants using real-time communication technologies (such as WebRTC). DebateRoom does not retain copies of conversations.

To take part in a debate, the app requests access to your device's camera and microphone. This access powers live video and audio during a session only; the streams are transmitted directly between participants and are not recorded or stored by us. You can revoke camera or microphone access at any time in your device settings.

3. Network and Connection Data

To enable live debate sessions, certain network information, including IP addresses and connection metadata, is processed temporarily to establish and maintain peer-to-peer or relay-based connections.

This information may pass through third-party infrastructure providers solely for operational, security, and performance purposes. DebateRoom does not use this information for advertising, profiling, or cross-site tracking.

4. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

• Enable and maintain live debate sessions
• Match users based on selected topics and stances
• Monitor connection quality and performance
• Analyze usage trends to improve the Service
• Detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, misuse, or security issues

DebateRoom does not use collected information for targeted advertising.

5. Data Retention

We retain technical and usage data only for as long as reasonably necessary to:

• Operate and improve the Service
• Maintain security and prevent abuse
• Comply with applicable legal obligations

In most cases, data is retained for approximately 30–90 days and then deleted or anonymized.

6. Sharing of Information

DebateRoom does not sell or rent personal information.

We may disclose information only:

• If required by law or legal process
• To protect the rights, safety, or integrity of DebateRoom, its users, or the public

7. Third-Party Service Providers

DebateRoom may use trusted third-party service providers for hosting, networking, analytics, and security.

These providers may process limited technical information solely to perform services for DebateRoom.

8. Cookies and Analytics

DebateRoom uses cookies and analytics tools to understand how the Site is used and to improve functionality.

Specifically, we use Google Analytics, a web-analytics service provided by Google. It uses cookies to collect standard usage information such as pages visited, referring source, approximate location (derived from IP address), and device and browser type. This information is aggregated to help us measure traffic and improve the Service. It is not used for behavioral profiling or targeted advertising, and we do not sell it.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing Google's browser opt-out add-on, or manage cookies at any time through your browser settings.

9. Your Choices

You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen. Deleting your account removes your profile and associated personal data from our systems. You may also stop using the Service at any time.

You can revoke camera and microphone permissions, and manage cookies, through your device or browser settings.

10. Children's Privacy

DebateRoom is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
